On August 28, the junior varsity (JV) football team hit the field for an official pre-season scrimmage against West Genesee. The matchup marked a key tuneup before the regular-season began, giving coaches, players and fans their first look at the squad in game play against quality competition.
Scrimmages against established programs like West Genesee serve a vital purpose, functioning as far more than just practice with referees. For the coaching staff, the action offered a chance to evaluate positional battles, test offensive and defensive playbooks under live-game speed and establish team depth. Key focus areas included executing sound fundamentals, minimizing pre-snap penalties and perfecting special teams execution before official standings came into play.
The players squaring off against West Genesee provided an immediate test and an opportunity to prove their readiness. Underclassmen aiming to secure starting roles or land key rotational spots competed alongside returning players looking to establish themselves as team leaders.
